Fort Pitt

A photograph of the site of Fort Pitt taken in 1947. It was the Hudson Bay trading post on the North Saskatchewan River between Battleford and Edmonton that was looted and burned by Plains Cree warriors during the 1885 resistance. The depression next to the river on the right is where the NWMP were allowed to leave the Fort on a scow and float downriver to Battleford.

Historical note:

This photograph is part of a collection of images used by Reg Taylor of the Saskatoon Star Phoenix in an article he wrote which featured William Bleasdell Cameron, a survivor of the so-called Frog Lake Massacre, 2 April 1885.
