Construction of a ceremonial lodge

Description
A series of nine photographs (PH-87-127 to PH-87-135) that show various activities related to the construction of ceremonial lodge in Northern Saskatchewan. Men and young men are shown erecting the lodge poles, hauling the poles in behind horses, and preparing cloth offerings. A camp of white canvas tents can be seen in the background in two photos. There is also a photo of people arriving by horse and wagon.

Cree Camp on the Prairies

Description
A photograph of a camp of Cree people on the prairie, probably sometime between 1890 and 1930. Many wear western clothing, some women with formal dresses and caps. A man with his back to camera wears some traditional clothing adorned with feathers. Picture possibly taken by George Mann family who worked with Cree people in Onion Lake, Saddle Lake and Hobbema reserves between 1883 and 1916. Members of the family were known to continue to visit these areas well into the 1920s.

Close-up image of plaques at Cut Knife Hill. Plaque reads: "Cut Knife Battlefield. Named after Chief Cut Knife of the Sarcee in an historic battle with the Cree. On 2nd May, 1885, Lt. Col. W.D. Otter led 325 troops composed of North West Mounted Police, "B" Battery, "C" Company, Foot Guards, Queen's Own and Battleford Rifles, against the Cree and Assiniboine under Poundmaker and Fine Day. After an engagement of six hours, the troops retreated to Battleford."
