After an introduction by Murray Sinclair, Commissioner Bertha Wilson summarizes the preceding day's session, and states that "Today, we are going to address head-on the questions whether the existing justice system can be adapted to fit the needs of Native people, or whether it is so alien in its fundamental features that a separate or parallel system needs to be put in place." Murray Sinclair then goes on to discuss the format for the day's proceedings, and Professor Brad Morse addresses some other procedural issues then introduces the first presenter.
