Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples: Presentation by Gary LaPlante, Kewatin Communications

Alternate Title
Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples - Transcriptions of Public Hearings and Round Table Discussions
File contains a presentation by Gary LaPlante, Kewatin Communications. LaPlante discusses self-governance and the critical view of it he has experienced from some Aboriginal people. LaPlante discusses his own life experiences and his view that race relations are a two way street and that some Aboriginal people harbour racist views and that this must be addressed. He gives his opinions on self-governance institutions and his skepticism towards Saskatoon's race relations officer which he thinks is held by both the Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal community suggesting that perhaps a body or institution to monitor the state of race relations as they are developing would be more effective. Following his presentation Commissioners Erasmus and Blakeney discuss some of the issues raised with LaPlante.
