Making A Paddle

A set of 12 photos showing Napthelie McKenzie splitting a log and making a paddle. p01: Selecting a log. p02: Preparing to split the log. p03: Splitting the log with a wedge. p04: Using a second wedge. p05: The log is split. p06: Rough shaping with an axe. p07: Starting to shape with a plane. p08: Originally this was done with stone or bone tools. p09: In the past a knife was also used for this work. p10: The paddle begins to have a smooth finish. p11: Napthelie displays the completed paddle. p12: Grandchildren show a well-used paddle.
