File contains correspondence regarding the sale of land and a scrip land transfer in the File Hills/Fort Qu'Appelle area of the North-West Territories of Canada, Saskatchewan district. Involved in these transactions were Lazare Laliberte, Thomas G. Morrison, William Hall, John Leader, and Thomas W. Jackson. Also in the file is a copy of a letter of resignation from File Hills Indian Agency clerk T. P. Godfrey, who accused Inspector W. M. Graham of improper handling of agency funds and suspicious booking keeping practices.

Discusses government's and churches' goals for female students, and their failure to achieve them. Focuses on schools located in Fort Qu'Appelle and North Battleford, Saskatchewan, and High River, Alberta.

Discusses results of a survey from the Star Blanket Reserve wanting one federal school for four reserves in their area.

Historical note:

The town of Fort Qu'Appelle, SK, is located in the Qu'Appelle Valley 70 km NE of Regina between Echo and Mission Lakes. Fort Qu'Appelle was the crossroads of a number of historic trails that traversed the North-West Territories. The Hudson's Bay Company built a post at Fort Qu'Appelle in 1864.

This file contains "Sinasia Remembers" the reminiscences of Harriet E. Gerry (unpublished), and published articles about her work nursing among the Indians of western Canada. Her extensive memoir is made up of several short stories and anecdotes about the many communities she worked in. These include Onion Lake, Kehewin Reserve, Leask, Sturgeon Lake, Cold Lake, Fort Qu'Appelle, One Arrow Reserve, Piapot Reserve and many in British Columbia later in her career.

This chapter of Reginald Beatty's diary describes his journey from his homestead in the Carrot River area to Troy (later Qu'Appelle Station) for supplies in late February 1886, a round trip of 300 miles. Also included is a description of the courtship between one of Beatty's travel companions and the local schoolteacher. Item found within folder 'Reginald Bird Beatty Papers.'

This chapter of Reginald Beatty's diary relates to an encounter with 300 Sioux Indians from the United States at Fort Ellice. Third part of story. Item found within folder 'Reginald Bird Beatty Papers.'

Portrait sketches of key figures in the Northwest Resistance. Subjects include Mrs. T. Charles Watson, Major T.C. Watson, Lt.-Col. the Hon. W.N. Kennedy, Corporal Lethbridge, Col.-Sergt. Cooper, and Capt. Herbert Swinford. Caption of sketches: "(1) Mrs. T. Charles Watson, who has commenced a series of dramatic readings in aid of local patriotic funds; (2) Major T.C. Watson, (late of H.M. service), commanding the troops raised at Yorkton, Assiniboia; (3) Lt.-Col. the Hon. W.N. Kennedy, of the 90th Batt.

Historical note:

Transcript of a tape recorded interview of Metis North West Mounted Police employee Gabriel Leveille. Leveille worked in the Cypress Hills, Fort Walsh area during the latter half of the nineteenth century. Topics covered in the interview include Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse in Canada, Gabriel Dumont and the 1885 uprising, roping a grizzly bear in the Cypress Hills, Chief Piapot, Ranching, and numerous other topics pertaining to Police and Metis life.

Historical note:

File contains the transcript of a portion of the National Round Table on Aboriginal Health and Social Issues for the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples. This part of the volume contains the discussions of a Panel of experts assembled on Day 1 touching on the possibility of a Holistic community health strategy.
